About this District of Columbia paycheck calculator
This is the CalcPaid paycheck calculator with the District of Columbia already selected. Enter your pay and how often you are paid, and it estimates your 2026 take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and District of Columbia income tax.
It runs the same calculation as the US Paycheck Calculator. If you work in a state instead, choose it in the calculator above.
Everything is calculated in your browser. Your figures are never sent to a server, written to the address bar or stored. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, which sees that this page was opened, not what you typed into it. The privacy page has the detail.
What the calculator applies for the District of Columbia
- District of Columbia income tax has seven rates. The same rates apply whatever your filing status: the calculator charges 4% on the first $10,000 of District of Columbia taxable income, 6% from $10,000 to $40,000, 6.5% from $40,000 to $60,000, 8.5% from $60,000 to $250,000, 9.25% from $250,000 to $500,000, 9.75% from $500,000 to $1,000,000 and 10.75% on everything above $1,000,000.
- Pre-tax deductions lower your District of Columbia wages. Health, dental and vision premiums, FSA and HSA contributions, traditional 401(k) contributions and any other pre-tax deduction you enter all come off your pay before District of Columbia tax is worked out.
- A standard deduction comes off next. The calculator subtracts a standard deduction of $15,000 if you are single or married filing separately, $30,000 if you are married filing jointly and $22,500 if you are head of household, and applies the rates to what is left. The District of Columbia sets this deduction itself rather than following the federal one.
- Nothing else is added for the District of Columbia. The calculator takes out no District of Columbia payroll contribution and no city or county income tax.
- These figures are carried forward, not confirmed for 2026. The standard deduction amounts above are the District of Columbia’s 2025 ones. The deduction is adjusted for the cost of living after 2025, and until the 2026 amounts are confirmed, CalcPaid’s data keeps the 2025 amounts. The data records the District of Columbia figures as a whole, the rates included, as carried forward from the last confirmed amounts rather than checked for 2026. It names the District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue, a 2025 District of Columbia tax act and the Tax Foundation among its sources.
An estimate, not your pay stub
The result is an annualized estimate rather than an exact payroll withholding calculation. Your employer’s payroll system works pay period by pay period, using the withholding forms you filed and your year-to-date pay — information this calculator does not have — so the figure on a given paycheck can fall either side of the one shown here.
Your pay stub is the authority on what was actually withheld, and your tax return is the authority on what you finally owe for the year.
