Estimate your take-home pay in Illinois after federal taxes, Social Security, Medicare and state taxes.
About this Illinois paycheck calculator
This is the CalcPaid paycheck calculator with Illinois already selected. Enter your pay and how often you are paid, and it estimates your 2026 take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and Illinois income tax.
It runs the same calculation as the US Paycheck Calculator. If you work in a different state, choose it in the calculator above.
Everything is calculated in your browser. Your figures are never sent to a server, written to the address bar or stored. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, which sees that this page was opened, not what you typed into it. The privacy page has the detail.
What the calculator applies for Illinois
- Illinois income tax is a flat 4.95%. The same rate applies to all of your Illinois taxable income, whatever your filing status.
- Pre-tax deductions lower your Illinois wages. Health, dental and vision premiums, FSA and HSA contributions, traditional 401(k) contributions and any other pre-tax deduction you enter all come off your pay before Illinois tax is worked out.
- An exemption allowance comes off next, not a standard deduction. Illinois has no standard deduction. The calculator subtracts a personal exemption allowance of $2,925 if you are single, married filing separately or head of household, and $5,850 if you are married filing jointly, then applies the 4.95% to what is left.
- Very high earners lose the allowance; the calculator does not. Illinois’s personal exemption allowance is not available to very high earners. The calculator does not apply that limit — it subtracts the full allowance at every income — so for a very high earner it will show less Illinois tax than is actually due.
- Nothing else is added for Illinois. The calculator takes out no Illinois payroll contribution and no city or county income tax.
- These figures have not been confirmed against a 2026 agency document. The 4.95% rate and the exemption allowance come from reputable secondary sources and have not yet been re-checked against a 2026 Illinois Department of Revenue document.
An estimate, not your pay stub
The result is an annualized estimate rather than an exact payroll withholding calculation. Your employer’s payroll system works pay period by pay period, using the withholding forms you filed and your year-to-date pay — information this calculator does not have — so the figure on a given paycheck can fall either side of the one shown here.
Your pay stub is the authority on what was actually withheld, and your tax return is the authority on what you finally owe for the year.
