Estimate your take-home pay in North Carolina after federal taxes, Social Security, Medicare and state taxes.
About this North Carolina paycheck calculator
This is the CalcPaid paycheck calculator with North Carolina already selected. Enter your pay and how often you are paid, and it estimates your 2026 take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and North Carolina income tax.
It runs the same calculation as the US Paycheck Calculator. If you work in a different state, choose it in the calculator above.
Everything is calculated in your browser. Your figures are never sent to a server, written to the address bar or stored. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, which sees that this page was opened, not what you typed into it. The privacy page has the detail.
What the calculator applies for North Carolina
- North Carolina income tax is a flat 3.99%. The same rate applies to all of your North Carolina taxable income, whatever your filing status.
- Pre-tax deductions lower your North Carolina wages. Health, dental and vision premiums, FSA and HSA contributions, traditional 401(k) contributions and any other pre-tax deduction you enter all come off your pay before North Carolina tax is worked out.
- A standard deduction comes off next. The calculator subtracts a North Carolina standard deduction of $12,750 if you are single or married filing separately, $25,500 if you are married filing jointly and $19,125 if you are head of household, then applies the 3.99% to what is left.
- The rate is for 2026 only. North Carolina is stepping its flat rate down each year, subject to revenue targets being met. The calculator uses the 3.99% recorded for 2026 and assumes nothing about later years.
- Nothing else is added for North Carolina. The calculator takes out no North Carolina payroll contribution and no city or county income tax.
- These figures have not been confirmed against a 2026 agency document. The 3.99% rate and the standard deduction amounts come from reputable secondary sources and have not yet been re-checked against a 2026 North Carolina Department of Revenue document.
An estimate, not your pay stub
The result is an annualized estimate rather than an exact payroll withholding calculation. Your employer’s payroll system works pay period by pay period, using the withholding forms you filed and your year-to-date pay — information this calculator does not have — so the figure on a given paycheck can fall either side of the one shown here.
Your pay stub is the authority on what was actually withheld, and your tax return is the authority on what you finally owe for the year.
