How these figures are worked out
Each figure starts from the salary and takes off federal income tax, charged in brackets on what is left after the 2026 standard deduction of $16,100 for a single filer. Social Security takes 6.2% of pay up to $184,500, Medicare 1.45% of all pay, and Additional Medicare tax a further 0.9% above $200,000.
The state columns add that state's income tax and any payroll program it runs, such as California's disability insurance contribution. Every salary is assumed to be paid biweekly with no 401(k), health insurance or other pre-tax deductions, and city and county income taxes are left out. The paycheck calculator takes your own deductions into account.
If you are paid an hourly wage, the hourly paycheck calculator works out take-home pay from your rate, hours and overtime. To turn a salary into an hourly rate, or an hourly rate into a salary, use the salary to hourly calculator.
