Pennsylvania Paycheck Calculator

Estimate your take-home pay in Pennsylvania after federal taxes, Social Security, Medicare and state taxes.

About this Pennsylvania paycheck calculator

This is the CalcPaid paycheck calculator with Pennsylvania already selected. Enter your pay and how often you are paid, and it estimates your 2026 take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, Pennsylvania income tax and PA Unemployment Compensation, with local earned income tax if you choose a place or enter a rate.

It runs the same calculation as the US Paycheck Calculator. If you work in a different state, choose it in the calculator above.

Everything is calculated in your browser. Your figures are never sent to a server, written to the address bar or stored. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, which sees that this page was opened, not what you typed into it. The privacy page has the detail.

What the calculator applies for Pennsylvania

  • Pennsylvania income tax is a flat 3.07%. The same rate applies to all of your Pennsylvania taxable income, whatever your filing status.
  • Some pre-tax deductions lower your Pennsylvania wages and some do not. Health, dental and vision premiums and FSA and HSA contributions come off your pay before Pennsylvania tax is worked out. Traditional 401(k) contributions and any other pre-tax deduction you enter do not. Pennsylvania taxes your 401(k) contributions: they lower your federal tax but not your Pennsylvania tax, so your Pennsylvania wages are higher than your federal wages.
  • No deduction or exemption comes off. The calculator subtracts no standard deduction, exemption or credit for Pennsylvania and applies the 3.07% to your Pennsylvania wages.
  • PA Unemployment Compensation is taken out as well. It is 0.07% of your gross wages, charged on every dollar with no wage limit and no maximum. Pennsylvania is one of only three states where employees contribute to unemployment insurance.
  • It is charged on your gross wages. Gross means gross: health, dental and vision premiums, FSA and HSA contributions, 401(k) contributions and any other pre-tax deduction you enter do not reduce the wages it is charged on, even though some of them lower your Pennsylvania income tax. The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry bases the employee contribution on total (gross) wages, and Pennsylvania’s Unemployment Compensation Law charges it on all wages.
  • Local earned income tax is added only if you choose it. Almost every Pennsylvania municipality levies a local earned income tax, most commonly 1%; Philadelphia’s is much higher. The calculator’s “City or county” field starts on “No local income tax” and lists Philadelphia (resident) at 3.7375% and Philadelphia (non-resident) at 3.4275% (both 2026 blended full-year estimates, explained below), Pittsburgh at 3%, Scranton at 3.4%, and “Most other municipalities (1%)”, which charges 1%. If you choose one, the calculator charges its rate on your Pennsylvania wages — the same amount the 3.07% is charged on — and shows it under that choice’s name.
  • The Philadelphia figures are a 2026 blended full-year estimate, not the current Wage Tax rate. Philadelphia cut its Wage Tax on July 1, 2026 (residents 3.74% to 3.735%, non-residents 3.43% to 3.425%). Because the calculator estimates a full calendar year, it uses the average of the two rates: 3.7375% for residents and 3.4275% for non-residents. Paychecks from July 1, 2026 onward are withheld at 3.735% for residents and 3.425% for non-residents, so a paycheck before July is withheld slightly above the blended figure and one from July onward slightly below it.
  • No single local rate applies across Pennsylvania. Local rates differ from place to place, and the calculator applies none unless you choose one. For any other municipality, choose “Somewhere else — enter the rate” and type its rate: the calculator charges it on the same Pennsylvania wages and shows it as local income tax.
  • Nothing else is added for Pennsylvania. The calculator takes out no other Pennsylvania payroll contribution and no local income tax other than the one you choose or enter.
  • Not every figure has been confirmed against a 2026 agency document. The PA Unemployment Compensation rate and the wages it is charged on were checked directly against the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry’s guidance for employers and Pennsylvania’s Unemployment Compensation Law. CalcPaid’s data names the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue and the Philadelphia Department of Revenue’s Wage Tax rate table among its sources for the other figures, but records them as not yet confirmed. It names no source for the Pittsburgh, Scranton and 1% rates.

An estimate, not your pay stub

The result is an annualized estimate rather than an exact payroll withholding calculation. Your employer’s payroll system works pay period by pay period, using the withholding forms you filed and your year-to-date pay — information this calculator does not have — so the figure on a given paycheck can fall either side of the one shown here.

Your pay stub is the authority on what was actually withheld, and your tax return is the authority on what you finally owe for the year.
