West Virginia Paycheck Calculator

Estimate your take-home pay in West Virginia after federal taxes, Social Security, Medicare and state taxes.

About this West Virginia paycheck calculator

This is the CalcPaid paycheck calculator with West Virginia already selected. Enter your pay and how often you are paid, and it estimates your 2026 take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and West Virginia income tax.

It runs the same calculation as the US Paycheck Calculator. If you work in a different state, choose it in the calculator above.

Everything is calculated in your browser. Your figures are never sent to a server, written to the address bar or stored. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, which sees that this page was opened, not what you typed into it. The privacy page has the detail.

What the calculator applies for West Virginia

  • West Virginia income tax rises in five steps. If you are single, married filing jointly or head of household, the calculator charges 2.11% on the first $10,000 of West Virginia taxable income, 2.81% from $10,000 to $25,000, 3.16% from $25,000 to $40,000, 4.22% from $40,000 to $60,000 and 4.58% on everything above $60,000. If you are married filing separately, the same rates apply, stepping up at $5,000, $12,500, $20,000 and $30,000.
  • Pre-tax deductions lower your West Virginia wages. Health, dental and vision premiums, FSA and HSA contributions, traditional 401(k) contributions and any other pre-tax deduction you enter all come off your pay before West Virginia tax is worked out.
  • An exemption comes off next. The calculator subtracts no standard deduction for West Virginia. It subtracts an exemption of $2,000, or $4,000 if you are married filing jointly, and applies the rates to what is left.
  • The rates are for 2026 only. West Virginia has been cutting its rates under a revenue-trigger law, so the rate can change from year to year. The calculator uses the rates recorded for 2026 and assumes nothing about later years.
  • Nothing else is added for West Virginia. The calculator takes out no West Virginia payroll contribution and no city or county income tax.
  • City service fees are not included. Several West Virginia cities charge a flat weekly city service fee rather than a percentage. The calculator does not include those fees.
  • These figures have not been confirmed against a 2026 agency document. The rates and the incomes at which each starts come from summaries of West Virginia’s 2026 rate change and have not yet been re-checked against a 2026 West Virginia Tax Division document. CalcPaid’s data records the West Virginia figures as a whole, the exemption included, as not yet confirmed.

An estimate, not your pay stub

The result is an annualized estimate rather than an exact payroll withholding calculation. Your employer’s payroll system works pay period by pay period, using the withholding forms you filed and your year-to-date pay — information this calculator does not have — so the figure on a given paycheck can fall either side of the one shown here.

Your pay stub is the authority on what was actually withheld, and your tax return is the authority on what you finally owe for the year.
