Kentucky Paycheck Calculator
Estimate your take-home pay in Kentucky after federal taxes, Social Security, Medicare and state taxes.
About this Kentucky paycheck calculator
This is the CalcPaid paycheck calculator with Kentucky already selected. Enter your pay and how often you are paid, and it estimates your 2026 take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and Kentucky income tax, with a local occupational tax if you choose a place or enter a rate.
It runs the same calculation as the US Paycheck Calculator. If you work in a different state, choose it in the calculator above.
Everything is calculated in your browser. Your figures are never sent to a server, written to the address bar or stored. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, which sees that this page was opened, not what you typed into it. The privacy page has the detail.
What the calculator applies for Kentucky
- Kentucky income tax is a flat 3.5%. The same rate applies to all of your Kentucky taxable income, whatever your filing status.
- Pre-tax deductions lower your Kentucky wages. Health, dental and vision premiums, FSA and HSA contributions, traditional 401(k) contributions and any other pre-tax deduction you enter all come off your pay before Kentucky tax is worked out.
- A standard deduction comes off next. The calculator subtracts a standard deduction of $3,360 if you are single, married filing separately or head of household, and $6,720 if you are married filing jointly, then applies the 3.5% to what is left.
- A local occupational tax is added only if you choose it. Most Kentucky cities and counties levy an occupational license tax on wages. The calculator’s “City or county” field starts on “No local income tax” and lists Louisville / Jefferson County at 2.2%, Lexington / Fayette County at 2.25%, Covington at 2.45% and Bowling Green at 1.85%. If you choose one, the calculator charges its rate on your Kentucky wages after pre-tax deductions, before the standard deduction comes off, and shows it under that place’s name.
- Local wage caps are not applied. Some Kentucky cities and counties cap the wages subject to their occupational tax. The calculator charges the rate on all of the wages above, so where a cap applies the estimate may show more local tax than you owe.
- No single local rate applies across Kentucky. The calculator applies no occupational tax unless you choose a place or enter a rate. For a city or county that is not listed, choose “Somewhere else — enter the rate” and type its rate: the calculator charges it on the same Kentucky wages and shows it as local income tax.
- Nothing else is added for Kentucky. The calculator takes out no Kentucky payroll contribution and no local income tax other than the one you choose or enter.
- These figures have not been confirmed against a 2026 agency document. CalcPaid’s data names the Kentucky Department of Revenue and the Tax Foundation as its sources, but records the Kentucky figures as not yet confirmed. It names no source for the four local rates.
An estimate, not your pay stub
The result is an annualized estimate rather than an exact payroll withholding calculation. Your employer’s payroll system works pay period by pay period, using the withholding forms you filed and your year-to-date pay — information this calculator does not have — so the figure on a given paycheck can fall either side of the one shown here.
Your pay stub is the authority on what was actually withheld, and your tax return is the authority on what you finally owe for the year.
