Hawaii Paycheck Calculator

Estimate your take-home pay in Hawaii after federal taxes, Social Security, Medicare and state taxes.

About this Hawaii paycheck calculator

This is the CalcPaid paycheck calculator with Hawaii already selected. Enter your pay and how often you are paid, and it estimates your 2026 take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, Hawaii income tax and Temporary Disability Insurance.

It runs the same calculation as the US Paycheck Calculator. If you work in a different state, choose it in the calculator above.

Everything is calculated in your browser. Your figures are never sent to a server, written to the address bar or stored. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, which sees that this page was opened, not what you typed into it. The privacy page has the detail.

What the calculator applies for Hawaii

  • Hawaii income tax rises in twelve steps. If you are single or married filing separately, the calculator charges 1.4% on the first $9,600 of Hawaii taxable income, 3.2% from $9,600 to $14,400, 5.5% from $14,400 to $19,200, 6.4% from $19,200 to $24,000, 6.8% from $24,000 to $36,000, 7.2% from $36,000 to $48,000, 7.6% from $48,000 to $125,000, 7.9% from $125,000 to $175,000, 8.25% from $175,000 to $225,000, 9% from $225,000 to $275,000, 10% from $275,000 to $325,000 and 11% on everything above $325,000. If you are married filing jointly, the same rates apply, stepping up at $19,200, $28,800, $38,400, $48,000, $72,000, $96,000, $250,000, $350,000, $450,000, $550,000 and $650,000; if you are head of household, at $14,400, $21,600, $28,800, $36,000, $54,000, $72,000, $187,500, $262,500, $337,500, $412,500 and $487,500.
  • Pre-tax deductions lower your Hawaii wages. Health, dental and vision premiums, FSA and HSA contributions, traditional 401(k) contributions and any other pre-tax deduction you enter all come off your pay before Hawaii tax is worked out.
  • A standard deduction and an exemption come off next. The calculator subtracts a standard deduction of $8,000 if you are single or married filing separately, $16,000 if you are married filing jointly and $12,000 if you are head of household. It then subtracts an exemption of $1,144, or $2,288 if you are married filing jointly, and applies the rates to what is left.
  • The standard deduction is for 2026 only. Hawaii is raising its standard deduction in steps over the next several years. The calculator uses the amounts recorded for 2026 and assumes nothing about later years.
  • Temporary Disability Insurance is taken out as well, at the most an employer may withhold. The calculator takes out up to 0.5% of your wages for Hawaii Temporary Disability Insurance, up to $7.50 a week. It applies that as $390 for the year, so anyone whose wages for it pass $78,000 a year has $390 taken out. That is the most an employer may withhold: half the premium cost, but no more than 0.5% of weekly wages and no more than $7.50 a week in 2026. An employer whose plan costs less withholds less. The 0.5% is a ceiling, not a fixed rate: the calculator cannot know what your employer’s plan costs, so it assumes the maximum, and an employer that pays more of the premium itself withholds less or nothing. If yours withholds less, your pay is higher than the calculator shows.
  • Which wages it is charged on is an assumption. The calculator charges it on the same wages as Social Security and Medicare: health, dental and vision premiums, FSA and HSA contributions and other pre-tax deductions reduce them, and 401(k) contributions do not. That has not been confirmed against a 2026 Hawaii source.
  • Nothing else is added for Hawaii. The calculator takes out no other Hawaii payroll contribution and no city or county income tax.
  • Checked at the source. CalcPaid’s 2026 data records the rates and standard deductions as checked directly against a Hawaii Department of Taxation announcement of the 2026 standard deductions and rate schedules, the exemption against Hawaii’s tax law, and the most an employer may withhold for Temporary Disability Insurance against the 2026 notice from the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

An estimate, not your pay stub

The result is an annualized estimate rather than an exact payroll withholding calculation. Your employer’s payroll system works pay period by pay period, using the withholding forms you filed and your year-to-date pay — information this calculator does not have — so the figure on a given paycheck can fall either side of the one shown here.

Your pay stub is the authority on what was actually withheld, and your tax return is the authority on what you finally owe for the year.
