Maine Paycheck Calculator

Estimate your take-home pay in Maine after federal taxes, Social Security, Medicare and state taxes.

About this Maine paycheck calculator

This is the CalcPaid paycheck calculator with Maine already selected. Enter your pay and how often you are paid, and it estimates your 2026 take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, Maine income tax and ME Paid Family & Medical Leave.

It runs the same calculation as the US Paycheck Calculator. If you work in a different state, choose it in the calculator above.

Everything is calculated in your browser. Your figures are never sent to a server, written to the address bar or stored. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, which sees that this page was opened, not what you typed into it. The privacy page has the detail.

What the calculator applies for Maine

  • Maine income tax rises in three steps. If you are single, the calculator charges 5.8% on the first $27,400 of Maine taxable income, 6.75% from $27,400 to $64,850, 7.15% from $64,850 to $1,000,000 and 9.15% on everything above $1,000,000. If you are married filing separately, the same applies, except that the 9.15% applies to everything above $750,000. If you are married filing jointly, the same rates apply, stepping up at $54,850, $129,750 and $1,500,000; if you are head of household, at $41,100, $97,300 and $1,500,000.
  • The 9.15% includes a new 2% surcharge. For 2026 Maine adds a 2% surcharge on taxable income above $1,000,000 if you are single, $750,000 if you are married filing separately and $1,500,000 if you are married filing jointly or head of household. The calculator charges it as part of the top rate: 7.15% plus 2%.
  • Pre-tax deductions lower your Maine wages. Health, dental and vision premiums, FSA and HSA contributions, traditional 401(k) contributions and any other pre-tax deduction you enter all come off your pay before Maine tax is worked out.
  • A standard deduction and a personal exemption come off next. The calculator subtracts a standard deduction of $15,700 if you are single or married filing separately, $31,400 if you are married filing jointly and $23,550 if you are head of household. It then subtracts a personal exemption of $5,300, or $10,600 if you are married filing jointly, and applies the rates to what is left.
  • Both are deductions, not credits. The standard deduction and the personal exemption lower the income Maine tax is charged on, not the tax itself. The calculator applies no Maine tax credit.
  • The full amounts are used at every income. Maine phases out the standard deduction and the personal exemption at higher incomes. The calculator subtracts the full amounts at every income, so at higher incomes the estimate may show less Maine tax than you owe.
  • ME Paid Family & Medical Leave is taken out as well. The employee share of ME Paid Family & Medical Leave is 0.5% of your wages — half of the 1% premium — charged on the first $184,500 you earn in 2026, the same limit as Social Security, so it comes to no more than $922.50 for the year.
  • Which wages it is charged on is an assumption. The calculator charges it on the same wages as Social Security and Medicare: health, dental and vision premiums, FSA and HSA contributions and other pre-tax deductions reduce them, and 401(k) contributions do not. That has not been confirmed against a 2026 Maine source.
  • Nothing else is added for Maine. The calculator takes out no other Maine payroll contribution and no city or county income tax.
  • Not every figure has been confirmed against a 2026 agency document. CalcPaid’s data records the Maine income tax figures — the rates, the incomes at which each starts, the 2% surcharge, the standard deductions and the personal exemption — as checked against Maine Revenue Services’ “State of Maine 2026 Individual Income Tax Rates”. The ME Paid Family & Medical Leave rate and wage limit have not been confirmed against a 2026 agency document.

An estimate, not your pay stub

The result is an annualized estimate rather than an exact payroll withholding calculation. Your employer’s payroll system works pay period by pay period, using the withholding forms you filed and your year-to-date pay — information this calculator does not have — so the figure on a given paycheck can fall either side of the one shown here.

Your pay stub is the authority on what was actually withheld, and your tax return is the authority on what you finally owe for the year.
