Massachusetts Paycheck Calculator
Estimate your take-home pay in Massachusetts after federal taxes, Social Security, Medicare and state taxes.
About this Massachusetts paycheck calculator
This is the CalcPaid paycheck calculator with Massachusetts already selected. Enter your pay and how often you are paid, and it estimates your 2026 take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, Massachusetts income tax and MA Paid Family & Medical Leave.
It runs the same calculation as the US Paycheck Calculator. If you work in a different state, choose it in the calculator above.
Everything is calculated in your browser. Your figures are never sent to a server, written to the address bar or stored. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, which sees that this page was opened, not what you typed into it. The privacy page has the detail.
What the calculator applies for Massachusetts
- Massachusetts income tax is 5%, with a 4% surtax above $1,107,750. The calculator charges 5% on all of your Massachusetts taxable income, and a further 4% on the part above $1,107,750, so that part is taxed at 9%. The same applies whatever your filing status.
- Pre-tax deductions lower your Massachusetts wages. Health, dental and vision premiums, FSA and HSA contributions, traditional 401(k) contributions and any other pre-tax deduction you enter all come off your pay before Massachusetts tax is worked out.
- A personal exemption comes off next. The calculator subtracts no standard deduction for Massachusetts. It subtracts a personal exemption of $4,400 if you are single or married filing separately, $8,800 if you are married filing jointly and $6,800 if you are head of household, and applies the rates to what is left.
- MA Paid Family & Medical Leave is taken out as well. The employee share of MA Paid Family & Medical Leave is 0.46% of your wages, charged on the first $184,500 you earn in 2026 — the same limit as Social Security — so it comes to no more than $848.70 for the year. The calculator takes out the full employee share; an employer that pays more of the premium itself takes less from your pay.
- Which wages it is charged on is partly an assumption. The calculator charges it on the same wages as Social Security and Medicare: health, dental and vision premiums, FSA and HSA contributions and other pre-tax deductions reduce them, and 401(k) contributions do not. CalcPaid’s data records that health, dental and vision premiums and FSA and HSA contributions come out under the wage definition in Massachusetts unemployment law, which the program uses. Whether 401(k) contributions should stay in, and whether other pre-tax deductions should come out, has not been confirmed against a 2026 Massachusetts source.
- Nothing else is added for Massachusetts. The calculator takes out no other Massachusetts payroll contribution and no city or county income tax.
- Not every figure has been confirmed against a 2026 agency document. The 5% rate, the 4% surtax and the $1,107,750 it starts at were checked directly against the Massachusetts Department of Revenue’s 2026 estimated-tax instructions, and the personal exemptions against Massachusetts tax law. The MA Paid Family & Medical Leave rate and wage limit are recorded as estimates and have not been confirmed against a 2026 agency document.
An estimate, not your pay stub
The result is an annualized estimate rather than an exact payroll withholding calculation. Your employer’s payroll system works pay period by pay period, using the withholding forms you filed and your year-to-date pay — information this calculator does not have — so the figure on a given paycheck can fall either side of the one shown here.
Your pay stub is the authority on what was actually withheld, and your tax return is the authority on what you finally owe for the year.
