About this New Mexico paycheck calculator
This is the CalcPaid paycheck calculator with New Mexico already selected. Enter your pay and how often you are paid, and it estimates your 2026 take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and New Mexico income tax.
It runs the same calculation as the US Paycheck Calculator. If you work in a different state, choose it in the calculator above.
Everything is calculated in your browser. Your figures are never sent to a server, written to the address bar or stored. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, which sees that this page was opened, not what you typed into it. The privacy page has the detail.
What the calculator applies for New Mexico
- New Mexico income tax rises in six steps. If you are single, the calculator charges 1.5% on the first $5,500 of New Mexico taxable income, 3.2% from $5,500 to $16,500, 4.3% from $16,500 to $33,500, 4.7% from $33,500 to $66,500, 4.9% from $66,500 to $210,000 and 5.9% on everything above $210,000. If you are married filing jointly or head of household, the same rates apply, stepping up at $8,000, $25,000, $50,000, $100,000 and $315,000; if you are married filing separately, at $4,000, $12,500, $25,000, $50,000 and $157,500.
- Pre-tax deductions lower your New Mexico wages. Health, dental and vision premiums, FSA and HSA contributions, traditional 401(k) contributions and any other pre-tax deduction you enter all come off your pay before New Mexico tax is worked out.
- A standard deduction comes off next. The calculator uses the federal standard deduction amounts for New Mexico: $16,100 if you are single or married filing separately, $32,200 if you are married filing jointly and $24,150 if you are head of household. It then applies the rates to what is left.
- Nothing else is added for New Mexico. The calculator takes out no New Mexico payroll contribution and no city or county income tax.
- These figures have not been confirmed against a 2026 agency document. CalcPaid’s data attributes the rate schedules to New Mexico law and the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department, but records the rates and the standard deduction as not yet re-checked against a 2026 agency document. The use of the federal standard deduction amounts is recorded without a separate New Mexico source.
An estimate, not your pay stub
The result is an annualized estimate rather than an exact payroll withholding calculation. Your employer’s payroll system works pay period by pay period, using the withholding forms you filed and your year-to-date pay — information this calculator does not have — so the figure on a given paycheck can fall either side of the one shown here.
Your pay stub is the authority on what was actually withheld, and your tax return is the authority on what you finally owe for the year.
