About this Nebraska paycheck calculator
This is the CalcPaid paycheck calculator with Nebraska already selected. Enter your pay and how often you are paid, and it estimates your 2026 take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and Nebraska income tax.
It runs the same calculation as the US Paycheck Calculator. If you work in a different state, choose it in the calculator above.
Everything is calculated in your browser. Your figures are never sent to a server, written to the address bar or stored. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, which sees that this page was opened, not what you typed into it. The privacy page has the detail.
What the calculator applies for Nebraska
- Nebraska income tax rises in three steps. If you are single or married filing separately, the calculator charges 2.46% on the first $4,130 of Nebraska taxable income, 3.51% from $4,130 to $24,760 and 4.55% on everything above $24,760. If you are married filing jointly, the same rates apply, stepping up at $8,250 and $49,530; if you are head of household, at $7,700 and $39,620.
- Pre-tax deductions lower your Nebraska wages. Health, dental and vision premiums, FSA and HSA contributions, traditional 401(k) contributions and any other pre-tax deduction you enter all come off your pay before Nebraska tax is worked out.
- A standard deduction comes off next. The calculator subtracts a standard deduction of $8,850 if you are single or married filing separately, $17,700 if you are married filing jointly and $12,950 if you are head of household, then applies the rates to what is left.
- A credit comes off the tax itself. After working out the rates, the calculator subtracts a credit of $176 if you are single, married filing separately or head of household, and $352 if you are married filing jointly. The credit lowers the Nebraska tax, not the income it is charged on.
- The rates are for 2026 only. Nebraska is lowering its top rate again after 2026. The calculator uses the rates recorded for 2026 and assumes nothing about later years.
- Nothing else is added for Nebraska. The calculator takes out no Nebraska payroll contribution and no city or county income tax.
- These figures have not been confirmed against a 2026 agency document. CalcPaid’s data names the Nebraska Department of Revenue’s 2026 estimated-tax form among its sources for the rates, the standard deductions and the credit, but records the Nebraska figures as not yet confirmed.
An estimate, not your pay stub
The result is an annualized estimate rather than an exact payroll withholding calculation. Your employer’s payroll system works pay period by pay period, using the withholding forms you filed and your year-to-date pay — information this calculator does not have — so the figure on a given paycheck can fall either side of the one shown here.
Your pay stub is the authority on what was actually withheld, and your tax return is the authority on what you finally owe for the year.
